Final Magazine

Front Cover

Previous Design

Final

By taking a final look at my front cover and taking into account the comments made by both my lecturer and peers I noticed that there were a couple of changes I could make to my front cover in order to improve it. The majority of the issue was with the vast spaces on the page. After experimenting with alterations in the locations of my conventions I came to the conclusion that something new was needed to be added to complete the page. I even attempted to change the banner across the bottom to make it thinner and allowing me to add another sub-heading:

However this banner did not look as impressive amongst the domination range of other featured on the cover. After carrying out various experimentations I came with the conclusion of adding a shape to the cover, I chose stars as they seemed relevant to the music stars (artists) who are going to be featured inside the magazine. I liked the effect these stars made on the page as they filled a lot of unwanted space and in my opinion make the cover look more complete and professional.

Contents Page

Final

I studied my contents page and after careful consideration I came to believe that I am happy with how my contents page looked without any final changes. The only feature I would have changed is the slight space above the the title 'Contents' however is I was to alter this I believe there would be gaps created elsewhere on the page and would make it more difficult to find an appropriate location for the magazine companies website address, issue number and the date of release.

Double-Page Spread

Final

After re-reading the comments made by my peers and lecturer I decided that I had to make some alterations to my double-page spread in order to make it more appealing to the target audience.
I had numerous comments on the headline saying that the font was too boring, this would not be acceptable as this would not appeal to the audience and catch their attention. I therefore took action by experimenting with various fonts and sizes until I found the font 'Lucida Handwriting' and chose the appropriate font size of 44. This font size and style took up more space, thus leaving less gaps on the page and made it look more professional and entertaining for the audience.
I also noticed that i had a couple of comments on the amount of text I had used. Saying that the font is too big and that I needed more text. I therefore amended this as I increased the length of the interview by adding two questions and then fixing the layout of the page. I then shrunk the size of the album poster as I believed it to look too dominant over the page which was inappropriate, this also allowed the flow of the page to be better suited for the interview.

Evaluation Q4

I created this collage using images I have cut out and stuck together from various magazines I bought to visually display what my target audience like and are interested in.

Evaluation Q3

Evaluation Q2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I choose to represent a social group of teenage females who have a love for chart music and are in group D and E in the audience code throughout my magazine as this also corresponds with my target audience meaning that the magazine would appeal to them and be successful.
I used various features and conventions throughout my media product to represent this social group. For instance through the use of mid even scene, the colour scheme which is feminists with the major use of pink. The costume use with the model wearing young and modern clothing to resemble the target audiences style and the section they fit under in the audience code (as they are in sections D and below they will not be wearing expensive designer or formal clothing therefore this would not have appealed to the audience or resembled the social group).

The language I have used resembles the social group well as there are consistently basic informal language used throughout the magazine as the social group represented is so young and in a low group on the audience code they may not be highly educated and would not be able to read further developed words. I have also used slang as this is very popular within the social group represented, this also makes the magazine sound more modern and fresh.

A lot of the features within my final images were chosen and developed carefully. For example the certain poses chosen, the main image on the contents page for instance displays a carefully thought out pose with the use of bubbles as a prop. the subject is posing blowing the bubbles as this connotes fun and gives a young aspect to the image due to the relationship between bubbles and younger children. This is effective in representing the young feminine social group with the use of the attractive female dressed in appropriate clothing and makeup/hair styling connoting youth and fun blowing bubbles. The main image on the over shows the subject posing in a mysterious manor, this also represents the social group as they are unpredictable as they are young. I also created the images to be high key as this would make the pages brighter and be more effective in representing the specific social group. The use of the bright colours on the images represent a freshness and give them a youthful feel with a bright hope and future. The subject is making eye contact with the camera lens in the majority of the images  as this connotes a contact with the audience and represents that the social group demonstrated is in the eye if the media, is being watched as they will influence what happens with the magazine but also what is happening outside the magazine in modern day life being the new generation who can also change what happens to the world.

I chose to feature links to social network sites within my magazine as this relates to the social media group targeted and represented in my magazine. Within the social group represented they are teenage females with are very into the use of social networks and will probably spend a lot of there time on them socialising, this will give them a chance to feel closer with the magazine and feel more connected with it.

There are certain music magazines that are already on the market and represent the same social group as mine. However the conventions I used to display this differ to give my magazine originality and be competitive on the market. A magazine which represents a similar social group is We heart pop magazine but this magazine displays a different style throughout consisting of a lot more images and less text connoting that although my magazine is aimed at a young social group it does on the other hand target a more educated group of youngsters.
